Stone Mill Trowbridge
History
The site of the mill was associated with the original Trowbridge Castle, and was used for corn or grist milling from the 16th century, and subsequently for fulling and large scale cloth manufacture. The part farthest from the road (Court Street) was built as a water-driven factory, probably late in the 18th century, while the higher section at the road end was added in 1817 when a 36 h.p. Boulton and Watt engine was fitted. The builders followed the style of the earlier mill with its flat-headed two-light windows, except for the beam engine house, distinguished by a long arched window (now altered, but still recognisable)
